My birthday is one of my favorite days of the year. Some people hate their birthdays and dread the day.
For me, I try to celebrate the entire month of November, kicking it off with Halloween being my 2nd favorite day of the year.
I wanted to drop a little inspo on my bday. If there's one email you read from me all year, hopefully, this is the one. After 49 years around the sun, I feel that I have learned so many life lessons - some through good and some through well... not so good.
But through it all, I've grown as a person and at 49, I've got no complaints. And even if I did, complaining only helps you to 'give pain a voice' and that's not going to move you through it any quicker. Inspo #1.
Below are some of the sayings or words that I have come to live by.
My gift today is to share them with you and to, hopefully inspire you in some small way. So, here they are.!
You get one life, make it a big one! - Ask yourself if you're living your BEST and BIGGEST life. If not, what can you do today to start?
You get 365 days a year to wake up and start over! - If today wasn't great, you get a clean slate tomorrow. Wake up each day and think... What can I do to make it a GREAT day?
If you're not uncomfortable, you're not trying! - Take a chance this week to do something that makes you uncomfortable.
If you're not growing, you're dying! - There are a million ways you can grow as a person - reading, listening to books, following someone on social media that inspires you, going to a conference or retreat. Start learning something new today.
Your body is a machine, treat it like one! - This is your only body. If you fill it up with crap, you will feel like crap. If you fill it up with the best foods-fluids-supplements, then you will feel and look your best.
Drink water, it does way more than you think! - There are a million articles on the benefits of hydration. Start each day with at least 8 oz of water as soon as you wake up. Just this small extra step can give you great results.
Get sleep - at least 7 hours, your brain and body need it! - I was a believer that I didn't need more than 5-6 hours until I started tracking my sleep and seeing how I felt after 7 hours. Tons of research has shown the impact of sleep on your brain, your body, and your overall wellness and longevity. Want to live longer, get more sleep.
When you think you've had enough, keep going! You're capable of 10x more than you think you are. - Resilience is a game-changer in life. Remember that every moment is an evolution that will eventually end. Push yourself through it. We grow through what we go through.
Be grateful, there are millions of people worse off than you! - Do you have a gratitude practice? Even just thinking about something you're grateful for right as your head hits the pillow or first thing in the morning can change the course of your day. I like to do this at night. If we end the day with a positive thought, chances are we will wake up with the same positive thought. This is a good one to try.
Give kindness, it doesn't cost you anything! - This is one thing you can give away daily... and it's absolutely free. It costs nothing for you to be nice to someone else. In fact, it will actually pay YOU back. When we are kind to others, it reduces our own levels of cortisol - the stress hormone.
Don't give pain a voice! (this one is worth repeating) - When we continue to talk to ourselves and others about what hurts, what's stressing us out, or using negative words, we are poisoning ourselves and our minds with that negativity. As simple as "Ugh, this workout is gonna suck" only makes the workout feel sucky. Or, when you tell yourself 'I'm too tired', it actually tricks your brain into thinking you're too tired. Try to flip this around when you can. Focus on the positive, feel more positive. Talk about how good you feel, how much energy you have. You CAN trick your brain.
(similar but different to the one above)
By changing your words, you can change your mind. By changing your mind, you can change your life. - The words we say to ourselves are more powerful than you might think. Can you flip your negatives into positives? My favorite example of this is rather than saying 'I have to...', change it to 'I GET to...'.
Figure out your non-negotiables and stick to them - For me, it's about not negotiating ME time - my time that is set aside strictly for me to do whatever I want. My choice is the gym at 6 am. I don't allow myself to negotiate this one or make excuses why I can't get up. I just get up and go. Tony Robbins does this with his Ice Plunge - I'm not quite there yet but you never know.
CHOOSE HAPPY! - You have a choice... why not choose HAPPY?
I could keep going but I'm sure you've got other things to do today.
I hope one of these statements above resonated with you or inspired you to take action in your life. If so, PLEASE share. It's always nice to hear that my emails are providing value or inspiring others. It would be a gift to hear from you.
